Year 4

Welcome to Year 4

Teacher: Miss Naik

We will be beginning the term practically with Science and the topic of Circuits. Investigations and experiments will be carried out and children will draw conclusions on which materials conduct electricity. Children will build their own circuits.

In both Literacy and Numeracy we will be working from the Primary Framework. As well as teaching skills that are relevant to either Numeracy or Literacy, the frameworks give us a greater chance to make links across the subjects which we find that the children enjoy more as learning is more meaningful and within a context.

Literacy will be linked in this manner to our History topic on Egyptians. The children will be learning about this period in history, in particular prominent figures such as Tutankhamen and Cleopatra. A visit will be planned hopefully this side of the half-term to the British Museum where the children will be able to experience artefacts and architecture from this period.

On Wednesdays the children will have P.E.. Please make sure that your child’s P.E. kit is in school on these days. We also have swimming lessons booked this term on Fridays so please ensure that your children bring in their swimming kits for this day.

Throughout the course of this term, spellings will be sent home in your child’s homework books on Fridays. Please encourage and support your child in learning them. We are also focusing on learning and consolidating children’s knowledge and understanding of times tables. If your child is not at the stage where they are confident with multiplication tables I would be grateful if you could spend some time helping them with this. Children who are completely confident with them early in Year 4 really benefit over those who are not. Your help and support is invaluable.

There is a parents evening later this term but if you have any concerns or problems that you wish to discuss before the meeting, please do ring the School Office and arrange a time to speak with me.

Yours sincerely,
Miss Naik
