History
A brief history of our school...
In 1968 Byron School, the newest of Coulsdon's schools, was built to accommodate the growing population created by the development of the Wates estate within Coulsdon Woods. The school was named after the family of squires who once owned the woods as well as most of Old Coulsdon, including Coulsdon Court, the family home. The school badge originally consisted of the emblems of two of the local public houses, the Red Lion and the Rose and Crown Inn, neither of which are still in existence.
Byron consisted of separate Infant and Junior schools until 2000 when it was decided to amalgamate the two to form the current Byron Primary School. It is now a one form entry school with experienced and dedicated staff, many of whom have had their own children educated at Byron.
Byron makes a difference to its pupils, measured as Contextual Value Added (CVA) at the end of Key Stage 2. We are very proud that in the last academic year this put us in the top 2% of schools in the country as well as being the primary school in Croydon with the highest CVA.
